Rhino Nursery
EXPERIENCE RHINOS LIKE NOWHERE ELSE
Rhino calves that would not have survived in the veld are brought to our rhino nursery, where we have the honour to raise them until they can be released into the reserve.
Reasons for baby rhinos being orphaned range from the death of the mother or the mother abandoning her baby, to her not having sufficient milk to raise her young. Injured or sick baby rhinos are also cared for at our nursery.

Our baby rhinos are hand-reared by qualified rehabilitation staff, with multiple daily feedings of a milk substitute and supplementary food – at the cost of around $10,000 until they are reintroduced to the wild, at the age of two.
We’ve had 280+ births at Rockwood, so an expert on-site rhino nursery is a necessity.
Your hunting safari helps fund the raising of baby rhinos until they can be released back into the reserve.
